The Almost Complete Life on Mars Soundtrack (Series 1)

By Howard | Published February 18, 2007

Life on Mars has just started again on the BBC – I’ve not got round to seeing the new episode yet (Sky+ has it stored away safely for me) but it seems the new series has provoked renewed interest in my previous post about the excellent soundtrack the first series had. It looks like the BBC have taken down the page I referenced to get the music information, so for the benefit of the many people who have asked for it, here’s The Almost Complete Life on Mars Soundtrack (Series 1). I expect I shall get together the Series 2 music once it’s complete…

Edit (6 December, 2007): There is a BitTorrent file floating based on this (Series 1) list.

  1. You might like to set the Sky+ up to record the episodes off BBC4 too, as they are running the next episode on BBC4 immediately after the main showing on BBC1.

  2. Interestingly there is now an official release of a soundtrack CD – not quite so complete though. :)

  3. Oh you star! I’m loving the music for this series, which is curious as I was alive in the early 70s and I distinctly remember it being crap. Obviously you have to be selective and possibly a bit older than a toddler…. :)

  4. Great project! I wanted to take up your challenge but someone else did already – I found a Bit Torrent link to what looks like “your” version of the soundtrack. Nice one.

I have a couple of questions for you though, expert!

    1. When is Led Zeppelin on the soundtrack? Your track order implies episode 1 but the BBC don’t list it.

    2. Why are there only 12 songs from the series on the official soundtrack? Cross-referencing with the BBC’s own music guide episode by episode gives only 12 matches. I’m very confused.

Thanks. I have two of the three tracks you’re missing if you’re still collecting.

  5. Hi
Can you tell me the name of the track in episode 5 series two when Sam is over dosing in the street. It’s a space rock track.
    Thanks a million
    Darren

  6. Hi, you are doing a great job here! Do you know what the song was in a recent episode (last 2 or 3 weeks)? It sounded like the chorus was ‘By still waters I lay down’ but I didn’t recognise it all all. A kind of bluesy-rocky-kinda-thing…. Thanks!

  7. I just found out! It’s ‘Lay Down’ by the excellent Strawbs from their album ‘Bursting at the Seams’ way back in the early 1970s but still available. Thanks anyway. Keep up the good work!

  10. I am going mad!

Does anybody know the title of the song that is being played when Sam first asked Annie to stay the night, when they were both in his flat? (Last nights episode)

As she left the room, it finished with something along the lines of “I think I have fallen in love with you” or words to that effect!!!

    Please help!!

  11. Gem,
Its ‘I hope I don’t fall in love with you’ by Tom Waits.

    track it down on iTunes!

    Jim

  12. YOU ABSOLUTE STAR!!!!!

    THANKYOU!!! :-)

  13. Thanks for such a comprehensive list– I’m eagerly waiting for BBC America to start airing the second series here in the states.
Does anyone know the song in the first episode of series (season 1) where Sam and Gene are in the pub and Gene demands that Sam share ideas about the murder case? The song then moves into the next scene where Sam dusting his shirt and tells DC Skelton to locate files.

    Thanks!

  14. Put it up on iTunes!

Better still – zip the lot and email it to me!!

    Cheers.

  15. Hey,

    excellent work!

I just finished watching the re-run of the last episode on BBC4. Don’t know if you haven’t yet gotten around to add the music of that episode, but I can’t find Bowie’s “Changes” in your list for the 2nd series… a grave omission, I’d say! ;o)

It’s used after Sam “goes back” and leaves the pub to find Annie.

    Cheers,

    F.

  16. Where does the Lee Perry track (Jungle Lion) fit in? Great work on the track research – WOW!

  17. I’m sure there was an Elvis track in series 2??

  18. So We have a list for Series 2

    Is this a complete list?

If so I will start compiling unless someone already has.

    Cheers
    Nat
PS More Nervous than a Small Nun at a Penguin Shoot

  19. I am watching the dvd release of season 2.

    Episode 4

What song is played when the team pulls up to the quarry/building site to investigate the body (at the 4 min mark)?

“Listen to the music…?” It’s a brilliant song..

    -A fan from the States

Can’t believe a US version is in the works.. leave it to my ‘country-men’ to s*** on a brilliant series

  20. Song used in Series 2, Episode 4 as they drive up to the wasteland area is different on the DVD to the one used for the TV airing – that was Lay Down by The Strawbs. A few other tracks are different on the DVD, or substituted with general background music.

What is the one used on the DVD?

    Cheers

    Richard

  21. Richard – the track used on the DVD at in the drive up to the wasteland in Series 2 Episode 4 is The Story in your Eyes by the Moody Blues.

  22. hey whats the song when in the first series when they go to the club to arrest that bloke (the owner)who was sucking a rent boy and they bring him out the front it’s also on the malteaser adverts

    thank you very much

    niall

    Maj

  24. hey great list thank you

but please can someone help me out, what is the song in episode four of the first series, which sam and gene go and find jonie dead to?

i looked on the bbc site but i’ve downloaded every song it could be and can’t find it

    help please?
    very grateful!!
    hannah

  25. Its ‘Wild Horses’ by the Rolling Stones, its a great song. Hope this helps.

  26. Also from series one

Hawkwind – ‘You Shouldn’t do That’

  27. On series one – maybe episode 3 or 4 – there was the FREE track ‘Wishing Well’, and another ‘rock’ track that I can’t identify. Any ideas??

  28. Series 1, Episode 7, the one where sam conducts an internal investigation of the death of a prisoner. What’s the jazzy tune at the end as they roll into the credits? Thanks

  29. Sinnerman by Nina Simone

  30. Series 1, Episode 1, scene where Sam and Gene are on the hunt for Edward Cramer. In the BBC version you can hear Deep Purple with fireball. But I’ve heart a different version when I flew with Emirates Airlines last week. Lyrics start with “I can see you running”. Does somebody know the song and artist??? Thanks a lot.

  31. Nice List. It has to be said though, that there WAS plenty of FAB music around at the time. One doesn’t have to be too selective (Staticgirl et al). Sure, the producers of LOM picked out some classics but pretty “mainstream” really and predictable at that. There is loads of stuff as good, if not better, that wasn’t quite so “pop”. If you ask me, t’aint no bad thing that much of it hasn’t been “re-found” yet. They’d only use it to flog stuff just as they’ve done with most of what they’ve found so far. You’d never believe it but much of it was never originally intended to be used to sell us more things that we don’t need!

  32. Hey Everyone, and thanks for the crack song research! There’s one tune I didn’t see in any of the lists or replies. In the final episode, S2E8, when Sam and Nelson have the conversation about feeling and living at the pub, there is song playing in the background. Lyrics run along the lines of “I’m going to find a way/To become what I am/I’m going to find a way/Back home”. Does anyone know the title/composer of this song?

    Thanks much for your help!

  33. re shauns message jun 3rd responding to my question

i have got that record but im sure its not it
i may just be going mad but im pretty sure its something else?
    help anyone?

  34. TeamPeak – the track you’re talking about is ‘THE WITCH’ by THE RATTLES

  35. Hi Is there anyone out there who can tell me the name of the song playing during the titles in the end of episode 5 series 2???????

  36. Hello everyone could someone tell me the song in the first series, when sam goes to the
party where he is a little boy, and sam and annie start chasing his Dad?

it is being played in the background of the disco? please help.

  37. what about: Dream Land by The Upsetters (episode 2)?
and: Ejection by Hawkwind (episode 5)?
and: I Can’t Live Without You by Colosseum (episode 5)?

  38. I reference to Hannah’s question (May 11th, 2007 at 15:29) for the song

“… but please can someone help me out, what is the song in episode four of the first series, which sam and gene go and find jonie dead to? …”

and Shaun’s answer guessing “Wild Horses” (Stones). Unfortunately this is 100-percent untrue even if it is referenced on the “life on mars” homepage.

I am also desperately searching for Hannah’s song which goes something like
“My own true love has gone”

    Thanx for any hints

  39. @TheBeat:

Perhaps there are differences between the UK TV broadcast, the UK DVD release and any foreign TV or DVD release? Are you from the UK?

I can tell you that my copy of episode four *definitely* has Wild Horses playing in the background when Sam and Jonie are in his flat, and later when they find her dead. It looks like licencing issues meant the powers that be had to substitute a different track.

  40. Thanks for your hard work

  41. Hail Eris!

Hitch, I’m fairly sure that ep 5 has Hawkwind’s “Born To Go” playing during Sam’s little odyssey to CID, just after he wakes up at the beginning. Mind you, I’ll admit that I haven’t had a chance to listen to “Ejection” in the recent past, but it definitely sounds like “Born To Go”, which I just checked.

Snarky, one of those strange Canadian fans who only ever heard anything by Hawkwind about fifteen years after discovering them in a secondhand bookstore (Thank you, Mike Moorcock! And Mike Butterworth…)

  42. Does anybody know the song playing in episode 1 series 2 when sam, gene, annie etc enter tony crane’s casino?

  43. Hi again. I’m collating all the music from the TV series and the substituted tracks from the DVDs which I’m going to make available to all completely free on my Multiply site. I’m currently 8 songs short out of the 109 songs used.

HAWKWIND – YOU SHOULDN’T DO THAT
    STATUS QUO – GOOD THINKING
THREE DEGREES – EVERYBODY GETS TO GO TO THE MOON
THREE DEGREES – YEAR OF DECISION
    AUDIENCE – THE BIG SPELL
    LINDISFARNE – POOR OLD IRELAND
LINDISFARNE – COURT IN THE ACT

Also AIN’T GOT NO – DEREK WADSWORTH FROM HAIR. Derek Wadsworth produced one of the UK versions of Hair and was himself a trombone player but not a singer. So if anyone knows who actually sang the song in LOM, I’d appreciate help.

If anyone has any of the above songs that they could let me have or maybe they could upload them to a free site for me, I’d appreciate it. My email is jimmyseal@btinternet.com

Please note, I’m collecting these songs to put on my Multiply site for fans to download and share and not for any financial gain.

  44. Katie, I’ve just checked my DVD and the song you’re looking for is by THE THREE DEGREES – EVERYBODY GETS TO GO TO THE MOON. There is a list of all the music used in the TV series for each episode – here’s the page where this track is listed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/lifeonmars/series2/ep1_music.shtml

  45. there is a tune on the series that has had its intro ‘borrowed’ by paul weller, does anyone know what it is?

  46. Andy, if you can give me some idea of which series/episode it was in or if you can give me an idea of what was happening at the time it was played or even a few lines from the song, I may be able to help.

  47. Andy, if you can give me a bit more info I may be able to help. Series, episode? What was happening at the time it was played? A line from the song?

  48. Hey,the “borrowed” paul weller song is 1085 overture by ELO. does anybody know what the song playing during the sam/gene, ray/chris chase scene in the boxing club (series2 ep8[i think]) i cant work it out, sounds like cream, but im not sure

  49. Hi Welshy, Yes it’s Cream and te track’s Crossroads. It was featured in Series 2 Episode 7 but it’s definetely the song yu refer to. If you need it, I can email it to you.

  50. Love this site, but can somebody please explain which song is played during the “Stay the night Annie”- scene(second series, last episode)

  51. The song that plays in episode four of the first series when Sam and Gene find Jonie dead is ‘Wild Horses’ by The Rolling Stones on the dvd version it is replaced with ‘I can’t change it’ by Frankie Miller.

  52. Does anyone have any ideas about the song that is being played when Sam walks into The Warren to talk to joanny the dancer, who is practicing dancing?

  53. The song playing when Joanny is practicing dancing is ‘Gudbuy t’Jane’ by Slade

  54. Hi. Fabulous soundtrack. Has anybody gathered ALL of the music together yet onto a site? Several have mentioned they were in the process, but I don’t see any sites yet. I’ve been downloading for over a week now – and am only missing a few. If anyone needs a particular song emailing, lemme know and if it’s amongst those I have, I’ll oblige. Cheers …. too bad there’s no series three …

    Ste W

    PS – email is sdoubleu@hotmail.com

  55. Hey.
the song Frankie Miller – I can’t change

    I’ve looked everywere for it.
    Could anybody send me it?
If so please email me or add me to msn on

    emo-princess-89@hotmail.co.uk

It’s the only song i cant find
    thanks in advance
    Laura

  56. Hi,

I am still missing three songs:
    Audience – The Big Spell
    Coloseum – I Can’t Live Without You
Three Degrees – Everybody gets to go to the Moon

If anybody has them or one of them, could you please send it to me at ngfftr@yahoo.com ?
    Thank you!

And if you need any other, just let me know and I’ll send it to you.

  57. Hi again and sorry for the delay in posting this. I’m still short of a couple of songs but in the meantime all of the others are up, running and ready for download.

    http://jimmyseal.multiply.com/

For those of you not familiar with Multiply, you have to sign up with a valid email addy but it’s pretty straightforward and you don’t get any spam – honest. Hope everyone enjoys.

    Jim

  58. can somebody tell me what the name of the song is in episode 4 series 1 when they pull the dead girls body from the canal at night

  59. Just to confirm that all the songs from LIFE ON MARS both the ones used in the TV series and the replacements used on the DVDs are now available free on my Multiply site – see previous message for link.

  60. For anybody who still doesn’t have the Three Degrees live track then go to this website:

    http://music.sina.com.cn/yueku/m/705580.html

here you can record it with the built-in Sound Recorder Accessory program in Windows located at:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sndrec32.exe

By default I think it only records 60 seconds but if you create yourself a blank 5 minute WAV file in any freely available sound editing program then you can open this in the Sound Recorder Accessory program and over-write it with this Three Degrees track from this point you may use Audacity or other program to convert the WAV to MP3 or whatever format – hope this helps some desperate soul who may not otherwise get to own a copy of this trach ;)

  61. Hi Andy, not trying to outdo you pal but the Three Degrees track, Everybody Gets To Go To The Moon(the live track) is available free on my Multiply site. I don’t have any commercial interest in Multiply, in spite of my constant plugging of it – I just want to make all this music available free for all LOM fans.

  62. If you want to hear lots of this music for free, go to jango.com. It’s an Internet radio site where you create stations. I’ve made one called ‘life on mars’ and my user name is kasey.

    Enjoy!

  63. In answer to the eralier question….

In the final episode, S2E8, when Sam and Nelson have the conversation about feeling and living at the pub, there is song playing in the background. Lyrics run along the lines of “I’m going to find a way/To become what I am”

…the song is “Decision/Indecision” by Atomic Rooster for the “In Hearing Of” album (which I’ve just ordered!)

  64. Fantastic! I’m a 70′s child (or well I was, am now a 36 year old!) who remembers most of the music from Life On Mars. I was desperate to know what the track was called on series 2 episode 4, where Gene, Sam, Ray and Chris were walking across the wasteland to the female body – thanks to this site, found it and am annoying my neighbours with it!

Excellent blog – thanks to all!

    Sparkster.

  65. I’m AMAZED that no-one has found or listed the ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ ukele track at the end of series 2 episode 8, when Sam emerges from hospital’s Hyde Ward. The artist is Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, (who recently died)and the track is -Somewhere Over The Rainbow-What A Wonderful World’.

Great blog, thanks for the info.

  66. In the first episode of the first series, I destinctly remember hearing the song “Feel so Good” by The Move. I am 100% sure. But nowhere on this InterWeb I can find any confirmation on this.

Brilliant series ofcourse, that goes without typing.

  67. I love everyone who spent time putting this together.

  68. Any news on ashes to ashes soundtrack anybody?

  69. Just downloaded that bittorrent you mentioned, not very good most of the songs were edited badly or something seemed to jump and miss half of the song.

  70. 8 and 29 are both cream white room!

  71. what was the song that was whistled?

  72. Song that was whistled? For he is a jolly good fellow

  73. The elvis song was spoken off by Hunt after being shot in the newspaper office, he said he wanted love me tender played at his funeral.

  74. If you go to ‘http://www.bbc.co.uk/lifeonmars/’ each episode of series 1 & 2 has track listings for Life On Mars

  75. Episode One Series Two a song was whistled all through the show. Can anyone tell me what the name of it was. It’s driving me crazy!!

  76. Not quite 100%.

The song is “Feel TOO good” by The Move.

Of course, I’m loving the series too.
We’re about half-way through series 2 here in Aus.

  77. Hi again all,

Due to changes by the nazi music police at Multiply.com you can no longer download any of the tracks I spent an age collating and uploading. However I’ve just uploaded all 112 songs(both series) on Megaupload.

    Links

    Series 1 328Mb Winzip file
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O4X1HV6P

    Series 2 278Mb Winzip file 54 tracks
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VOZ4VAVL

The songs are prefixed e.g. S1 EP3 T7 = Series 1 Episode 3 Track 7 for people who want to play them in order. Enjoy All

  78. Just spent the last week or so collecting all these songs and was only missing the Hair/Wadsworth song, so checked out the web and found this site and seen Mike K has them all for D/L.
Would have saved me hours :)
I’m downloading part 2 for the aforementioned song.
Congratulations if you have them all, I’ll compare our versions and keep the better ones :)

  79. Mike K, you are an absolute legend. Thanks so much for uploading all those, and for doing it all in order as well! I really appreciate the effort put into this.

  80. Thanks for this. Been working on the same tracklists and now i found this. and it will save me lots of work.

  81. Anyone know the song in S1E7 that the Hollies’ “I Can’t Tell the Bottom from the Top” leads into? It’s sort of jazzy/Austin Power-esque and it plays under the foot chase scene. It’s driving me mad.

  82. Hi,

This site is great and the job you made is really amazing. I also found some references on Wikipedia. I have nearly downloaded most of the titles (late nights in front of my computer :-) ) with iTune. The only problem I’ve so far is that I can find neither Everybody Gets To Go To The Moon by Three Degrees nor Dance With The Devil by Cozy Powell. I’ve tried different ways to use the search engine and it just does not work. Any tip?

    Morwenna.

  83. can anyone tell me what the atmaspheric music is that plays in life on mars in the background, it usuallys precedes sam hearing voices, from the tv..etc..is is very haunting and atmaspheric. I have been searching everywhere for it, and yet cannot find it. It seems to be the one piece of music, that is not mentioned.

It is instrumental and atsmapheric, and runs all the way thru the series 1 and 2

Please help put me out of my misery lol
Many thanks for the help and for this great web site..keep up the good work guys!
    w

  84. I’m pretty sure that the music that you’re talking about Wendy is just the instrumental mood music made for the show. I might be wrong though.
I don’t think that you can download it from anywhere…it’d be awesome if you could.

    Zoe

PS: An update on the songs I’m missing…I managed to get the two Atomic Rooster ones. Still looking for the others though.

  85. terry the whistling song is bring me sunshine the morecome and wise signiture tune

  86. Glad that pepes here are enjoying the downloads. Morwena, if you let me have your email I can send you the couple of tracks that you need. That goes for anyone else here that doesn’t want to download the 2 big zip files I’ve posted above. jimmyseal@btinternet.com

  87. Hi :) I’ve got most of the songs from the series that i want, but i’m still missing “I Can’t Change It” by Frankie Miller. If anyone has this song could you please email it to me?
    my email is gabby.cain@live.com
    Thanks

  88. excellent work. Congratulations all round.

Does anyone know of a similar collection for ASHES TO ASHES and where to get it?

    Thanks

  89. Mmmm. A2A. Sorry, I haven’t even contemplated compiling the music for this follow up series. I guess my inspiration for doing LOM was a love of the great writing/acting and my nostalgic memeories of the 70s. A2A just doesn’t grab me I’m afraid. Apart from the 3 main characters appearing from LOM, Keeley Hawes was a piss poor replacement for John Simms both in terms of being believable and acting(though she did get slightly better as the series progressed. I thought that the storylines and general writing was also very inferior and even Phillip Glenister struggled with the poor scripts.

Anyway, I won’t depress you with any more negativity. The music side of A2A was pretty good considering it was set in the 80s and thinking about this as I write, I suppose that I should make an effort to pull together the songs at some point – but not until I get over my disappointment.

  90. Just a note on a song title mentioned above, there was a typo in it:

Bring Me Sunshine — Morecambe & Wise

  100. Hi Costas, the song you’re looking for is ‘CALL THE POLICE’ by THIN LIZZY and it’s featured on the album ‘Shades Of A Blue Orphanage.’

  101. Just finished watching both series of Life on Mars (loved it) and was elated to find this blog. Thanks to all of you who worked so hard to find and put together all the songs from the show. I especially wanted to find out what that Strawbs song was at the quarry and I did. I’m an American in the U.S. who usually finds that UK shows are far superior to ours. Part of that is because they are less heavily censored. I’m going to watch Ashes to Ashes next and have a curiosity about the new U.S. version of Life on Mars. Occasionally we do okay with the remakes (i.e., The Office) but usually it’s a train wreck (i.e., Coupling) and often we wouldn’t even know what to do with it (i.e., Shameless, Skins). I read that ABC’s Life on Mars is a virtual scene for scene rehash though, so I’m not expecting much. Plus, I love Philip Glenister’s lovable rogue Gene Hunt and expect Harvey Keitel’s version to eliminate all likeability from the character. I’m not even going to check out our new version of Worst Week – that just cannot be any good. Oh, well, at least we have Weeds.

  102. Okay, I just watched episode 1 of the U.S. version of Life on Mars, and it’s not bad. I think fans of the UK show will like it because even though it copies the storyline and is less complex than the latter (at least in the pilot), it is different enough to hold your interest, and it’s interesting to compare and contrast. For instance, this one’s set in NY where there is a big hippie scene and Vietnam is a big deal. When Tyler first “awakens” in 1973, he looks up to see the Twin Towers standing. That’s a pretty powerful moment. Also, you guys will like the songs. There are even more used per episode than in the UK version, and most are different. Of course the title song is the same.

Here is a list of the songs from episode 1:

    * Chris Cornell – “Ground Zero”
(2008, played during opening scene set in 2008)
    * David Bowie – “Life on Mars?” (1973)
    * Five Man Electrical Band – “Signs” (1970)
    * The Who – “Baba O’Riley” (1971)
    * The Sweet – “Little Willy” (1972)
    * The Rolling Stones – “Out of Time” (1967)

  103. I just found the list of songs from the next four episodes of the U.S. version. Here they are, in order:

1×02 – The Real Adventures of the Unreal Sam Tyler

    * Matt the Hoople – “All the Way from Memphis” (1973)
    * Gilbert O’Sullivan – “Get Down” (1973)
    * David Bowie – “Life on Mars?” (1973)
    * Simon and Garfunkel – “I Am a Rock” (1966)

1×03 – My Maharishi Is Bigger Than Your Maharishi

    * Tommy James & The Shondells – “Sweet Cherry Wine” (1969)
    * The Turtles – “I’m Chief Kamanawanalea (We’re the Royal Macadamia Nuts)” (1968)
    * Dusty Springfield – “Just a Little Lovin’” (1969)
    * Marmalade – “Reflections of My Life” (1969)

1×04 – Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadows?

    * Paul Simon – “Mother and Child Reunion” (1972)
    * The Velvet Underground – “Rock and Roll” (1970)
    * T. Rex – “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” (1971)
    * Jones Brothers – “Lucky Lady” (1969)
    * The Kinks – “20th Century Man” (1971)
    * The Hollies – “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress” (1972)
    * The Beach Boys – “Long Promised Road” (1971)

  104. djsteeley – I would love the A2A compilation, if you’re still around and interested in sharing.

I watched the whole first series for the first time today, and though it’s not as good as LoM, I have to say I loved it quite a bit. And what can I say? Eighties music has a special place in my heart.

  105. Agent57 drop me a line at djsteeley@btinternet.com and I’ll post you a copy of the Ashes To Ashes mp3 soundtrack disc

  106. Okay, no, US version of LOM is not worth watching really. I think it will just make you angry, except for the songs which are cool. Upon closer examination, I think a lot of the songs are the same as the original. Changes are probably related to licensing and which songs crossed the waters at the time. But the show is just a watered down, dumbed down, censored, bloated version of the UK LOM. Just watched your Ashes to Ashes and loved that, too. Gene was so sexy in this one. Damn, those two had better get it on in series 2. We need a payoff. What was up though with Keeley wearing the same stupid clothes for the whole series? Even Gene changes his suits. Though he could have used a second pair of boots. And I understand the off-the-shoulder look but with a tank showing, not a bra!

  107. Laney – I actually kind of like the fact that she was wearing the same clothes… it’s a lot more realistic than shows where a character is never seen in the same thing. No one really has an infinite wardrobe in real life. Maybe she figures what’s the point in buying new clothes, when she’s just caught in her own brain and hopes to be able to get out soon? (Though I did always wonder why she put so much effort into the eyeshadow and stuff. We didn’t see much of her in the present, but she seemed a little different.)

I’ve managed to put together a LoM music pack myself, based on these helpful lists and files and some of my own searching, and I’ve packaged it into a torrent file. (I hope to do the same with the A2A collection, as well as music from Supernatural, when I get those packs done) If anyone wants to download it, and is familiar with bittorrent, you can find the .torrent file here: http://eleventybillion.com/misc/torrents/

If you don’t know about torrents, this might give you an idea:
    http://bittornado.com/newb.html (I couldn’t really find a better info page)

  108. I should also warn that, in the spirit of completism, the pack includes “Toxic” by Britney Spears. Yeah, I know. Sorry. You can just delete it right away.

I hope this gets some downloaders, as it’s the first torrent I’ve made.

  109. During the first 3 episodes, I can’t recall which one, but at the end of the show, Sam’s hippie neighbor asks him to dance with her. He finally agrees and they dance together, what was the name of that song? I remember it as I graduated around that time but could not recall it on the list provided. Can anyone tell me who the artist was also?

  110. Hi ela1203. The song is called “Reflections of my Life” by Marmalade. You can get all the episode titles, songs, etc from this website http://www.tv.com/life-on-mars/show/69238/episode_listings.html. Love the show too.

  111. I just watched an original Life on Mars Pilot that was never released. It was a copy of the UK episode, where Sam puts together clues to catch a serial killer while visiting a record store.
In a listing booth there was a Black Sabbath song playing. But, I cannot remember the name of that song. I went through all my cassettes but I cant find it. I know it as I have heard it millions of times back in the day.
Has anyone else seen that lost Pilots?

  112. Update. To save people the time going back over previous comments, the links I uploaded on Megaupload with the complete LOM series 1 & 2 are still active and include all the tracks + the DVD substitutions.

    Series 1 328Mb Winzip file

    Series 2 278Mb Winzip file 54 tracks

Onadius. Lost pilots? US or UK? Do you have any more details i.e. titles, track/artist listing, date of release?

  113. Has anyone compiled a “US” version of a soundtrack yet, before I create one?

  114. I have done a soundtrack for the first 3 US episodes – though haven’t had time to work on it since :-(

BTW I have completed Episode 1 Series 2 Ashes to Ashes Soundtrack (which includes the opera segments & the Charlie Rich (Behind Closed Doors) reference by Gene Hunt… (yes, I’m that sad ;-)

  115. Does anyone know the artist that sang the closing song on the US series episode “Let all the children boogie?” The song sounds like Lou Reed-lyrics go something like this: “she was the last planet I kissed..she went, she really went when she went.” GREAT song-need to know who it is.

  116. It’s “(She Was) The Last Planet I Kissed” performed by Sebastian Grace and The Electric Insects. Does anyone have LOM US version soundtrack in a torrent?

  117. Stumbled upon this blog whilst researching music from the excellent series ‘Life on Mars’. Besides being some of the best television I have ever seen the music has renewed my interest in all things 70′s. In 1973 I was 13.
I am now trying to put together a collection of the songs from the shows and I bet someone, somewhere, has the lot on Cd in MP3. If they have, and would be willing to send me a copy I would gladly pay for it. garrycane@gmail.com Cheers.

Hi Costas, the song you’re looking for is ‘CALL THE POLICE’ by THIN LIZZY and it’s featured on the album ‘Shades Of A Blue Orphanage.’

I disagree with this, it’s defo not Thin Lizzy

it is a source music from old Library records, not sure what it is thou.

Any help for the music at begining of episode 5 Series one UK LOM.

  119. Hi Guys,

What is the closing instrumental music to all the episodes Life On Mars USA?

  120. What is the sound track playing on the fx advert for Life on Mars Series 2

  121. Which artist played the closing instrumental music at the end of all the episodes of Life On Mars (US series)?????

  122. Hi, Anyone got the complete soundtrack for ashes to ashes season 1,2 and 3 and wanna share it?

    Br
    Anders

  123. hmmmm I have checked a lot of sites looking for a complete list of songs played in the series (Life on Mars -UK) and they all seem to miss the mark. No one has listed The Young Rascals – How Can I be Sure (Featured prominently in an episode in Series 2) as well as The George Baker Selection – Little Green Bag which was played as a snippet in one episode. And that’s just the ones that I was looking for so a lot more to be had than those listed. Many thanks to those who have listed what they can find though.

  124. Does anyone know the name of the song playing aas a snippet in the first episode of the LOM first season, when Genie and Sam jump over the table and rush in Cortina to Ramsey’s apartment, to save Dora Keanes? You can still hear it playing on the record player when Hunt smacks the tone arm to make it stop in the subsequent scene.

  125. @Omegaman

How Can I Be Sure is David Cassidy’s version.

Anyone have any ideas what the track at the start of ep 5 series 1 is? The sequence where the Capri is being chased across the football field. Cheers!

  126. You have missed “When the City Sleeps”-credited to Bombadil but actually Barclay James Harvest-please add!

  127. apologies in series 2

  128. Nelson always seems to have some sweet old reggae /
rocksteady numbers playing in his bar, but they’re so much in the
background I wondered if all of them have been tracked down. They
sound a lot like what was coming out of Studio One in the
60s/70s… Jackie Mittoo etc. I would totally drink at that bar
just to hear his vinyl collection! Anyone got a list of what he
    spins up?

  129. Season One also has a song called “Little Willy Won’t Go Home”

Didn’t see it among the listed songs here, so I thought I’d give it a mention (it’s a great track).

  130. There is a song that sounds like Led Zeppelin in the BBC second season. Episode with the Pakistani drug dealers where ST meets his ex girlfriend’s mother. The song the fall asleep to: sympathize…realize… something like that. What is that song?? Driving me bonkers. Any help?
